Mixed review for open-access journals

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, March 8, 2007 -- Researchers like to use works appearing in open-access journals but hesitate to publish their own research in the publications, according to a survey. The survey, by researchers at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, found that many scholars worry whether the open-access online journals, which are available free to readers, will be available long term. Also, there are doubts whether the newcomers to academic publishing reach the discipline-specific audience of traditional journals. The survey, "Open Access and Science Publishing," appeared in an open-access journal.
