2006 college sales up 2.8%, el-hi offNEW YORK, February 7, 2007 -- College publishing sales were up by 2.8 percent in the United States for 2006, according to an annual compilation by the Association of American Publishers. El-hi sales of basal and supplemental K-12 materials fell 5.8 percent. Sales of university press books were up -- 4.7 percent fro paperback and 4.1 percent for hardcover. Professional and scholarly books posted an increase of 2.3 percent.
The monthly breakdown for December, compared to a year earlier, in genres in which most academic authors publish:
College: Up 1.9 percent to $797.3 million El-hi: Off 1.8 percent to $130.1 million Professional/scholarly: Up 4.6 percent to $113.6 million University press (hard): Up 5.1 percent to $11 million University press (paper): Up 7.8 percent to $7.8 million
