Harper on self-dealing: We did no wrong

NEW YORK, December 22, 1999 -- The publishing house HarperCollins broke its usual silence on pending litigation to deny allegiations in an authors' suit that alleges the company wrongfully sold books to its own subsidiaries at below-market rates. Said HarperCollins spokesperson Lisa Herlig: "We are vigorously defending the matter and are confident we will prevail." The authors have asked a state court to recognize Harper Collins authors as group to recover royalties and possibly other damages lost by deep-discounting in book sswaps among Harper subsidiaries.
